Blue-Tooth Head-Set Connects But No Sound is Heard
This time, I ran into an issue where my Blue-Tooth Head-Set was not playing any sounds, even when connected to my P-C (Personal-Computer/Desk-Top). Normally, I would have sound for a few hours before it suddenly went mysteriously mute, then I'd just close up for the day and have my head-set recharging while doing other things or going to sleep until my next round of routines. This evening, how-ever, the head-set was mute from the beginning, even right after being connected. I disconnected and re-connected the device, and at one point eventually, I did get a brief amount of sound from the computer through the head-set, but it immediately went mute right after a fraction of a second that any sound was played. Fortunately, a particular fix did work, without having to play around with a bunch of different parameters (I had to find it in Russian on my computer since my O/S [Operating System] is configured in the Russian-language so I had to pull up the «Диспетчер Устройств» which is «Device-Manager» in Russian).
Then I basically replicated what worked for jajwarehouse (quoted after next image), without having to re-boot my computer, but simply removing the Blue-Tooth Device from the Device-Manager, and physically re-connecting the Blue-Tooth Adapter after it was disconnected. All of the drivers for Blue-Tooth Adapters properly re-installed, I re-paired my Blue-Tooth Head-Set, and sound was once again working. Why do I have a Blue-Tooth Head-Set ? Well, I currently dwell at an apartment (two-bedroom to myself), and there are «quiet-hours» that begin at 21h00 in the evening until 07h00 in the morning; plus, I need to roam around my apartment fairly often for various reasons, and connecting with wired head-phones was becoming inconvenient. When not using head-phones, the sound from my computer plays through P.A. (Public-Announcement) system-speakers, thus, reverberating quite a bit of vibration throughout the building if I have the volume up too high, and I can still hear its «bass» from my other rooms even at normal volumes. Rather than having to lower the volume all the time, something that requires I physically go near my computer, I would rather «silence» the atmosphere with a Blue-Tooth connection, for compliance with quiet-hours.

I had this very same issue and was digging around everywhere for answers when I came across your post. Although I found no answer anywhere online, I did finally manage to get the issue fixed. I have an Asus and I use a bluetooth usb adapter, but otherwise everything was exactly the same issue you have where the headset would work fine with other devices such as my phones and tablets, but not in Windows 7 although it would connect and could be set as the default playback device, but would not play anything. I tried every checkbox and setting in bluetooth settings and in sound playback devices. The headset was working correctly a few days ago and I have tried removing it and rebooting the computer several times to no avail.
What eventually fixed the issue was going into the device manager (you can right-click on Computer and select Manage and then select Device Manager on the left), find Bluetooth Radios near the top of the list on the right and expand that option. I have a Broadcom BCM20702 Bluetooth 4.0 USB Device and a Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator listed. I first tried disabling the Microsoft device, but it want to reboot my computer, so I decided to go ahead and Uninstall the Broadcom device before rebooting. Once I uninstalled it, both of the devices were removed from the list as expected. I never did reboot and just decided to remove the physical bluetooth adapter from the usb port and plugged it back in to allow it to reinstall all drivers. Once the drivers finished installing again, I reconnected my headset, set it as the default playback device again, and gave it a try and now it works just fine again.
